LGBTQIA+ members of the African Diaspora are invited to Black Queer Storytelling; a sacred space to reclaim our narratives through the ancestral practice of Oral Histories.Tues. Feb 24 | 5:30 PM - 8 PM | Parkside Bookshop
What is your story? This is an open, communal space for sharing. Bring a poem, a short story, or a song you’ve been working on. Offer divine wisdom or reflection. Or simply come to listen: Your presence as a witness is just as vital to the circle.
Why we gather: Those who were enslaved used spoken word, song, dance, and proverbs to ensure our history was never lost. As a wider queer community, we have also faced erasure. As black queer folx, that pressure to conform is multiplied—nonetheless, we have endured. There would be no American queer rights or justice without the life, legacies, and sacrifice of Black queer people and our elders.
Deep gratitude to our collaborators: We couldn’t do this without their incredible support.
