Step into Boston’s storied LGBTQ+ past with The History Project’s signature LGBTQ+ history walking tour of the Boston Common and Publuc Gardens. Researched and developed by THP's public historians, this guided stroll through Boston Common and the Public Garden uncovers stories of cruising spots, drag queens, memorials, protests, and celebrations that have shaped queer life in the city.

Whether you’re a lifelong local or visiting for the first time, you’ll see these iconic parks in a whole new way → through the lens of LGBTQ+ history, resilience, and community.

  • The tour is approximately 1.5 miles with frequent stops.

  • Comfortable walking shoes recommended.

  • Dress for the weather — the tour will take place rain or shine.

  • Space is limited, so advance registration is required.

Boston Common and the Public Garden have paved walking paths that are generally accessible for wheelchair users, though some areas may have uneven surfaces or mild inclines. Please contact us in advance with any specific accessibility needs so we can best support your participation.
