A Message from Jack Imbergamo, Co-Founder & Executive Director

I experienced deep trauma from transphobia in my Boston community alongside my family, simply because I chose to step into who I really am and did so proudly. The anger and hurt I experienced sparked something inside of me despite that hatred and bigotry. I want my story to be a beacon of light for my children and for other queer individuals, families, and communities.

This is why TQNC started and is rooted in community and civic engagement.

In my coming out, I found myself at the precipice of two worlds: One that glorifies who each of us can be and desire to be without the confines of cisheteronormativity, and one that reinforces constructs that not only stagnates growth in personal identity but inhibits the beauty that is individual expression.

When Matthew Broude and I met in May 2023, we connected deeply in our very first conversation, and I shared my lived experiences. Over the next 6 weeks, that spark ignited an intensive series of discussions that gave birth to The Queer Neighborhood Council.

By our 2nd birthday in 2025, we had hosted and organized 147 events and engaged over 3500 community members, but this isn’t about numbers. TQNC’s impact, as a collective, is apparent and clear at events like our Queer Sunset Boston Harbor Cruise, where nearly 200 members showed up proudly amongst non-queer residents. We stood out to make a simple statement, “we are here, queer, and proud beyond fear.”

As we continue to celebrate our 2nd birthday, I want you to know: This is only the beginning. We are activated in the cause for justice, liberation, and elevating queer joy in the highest of places.

We ask you to help us in the elevation by donating to help us achieve our $25,000 goal to keep creating more stories of queer joy and making waves toward queer liberation.

And don’t stop there — we invite all queer communities and allies to join us at our events, in our advocacy meetings, and to show up wherever in your own community, queer and proud.
