SEW GAY CLUB

SAVE THE DATE! OUR FIRST SEWING SKILL SHARE!

Join The Queer Neighborhood Council (TQNC) for our first sewing skill share! Whether you’ve never used a sewing machine or you’re an experienced customer, let’s craft together in a space centering LGBTQIA+ voices and experiences.

Open to teens and youth! (minimum age of 8yo, youth who are under middle school age need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)

**SPACE IS LIMITED!** Please RSVP below to secure your spot! (waitlist options available)

What to Expect:

  • We’ll kick off the gathering with a brief tutorial on using a sewing machine and follow with open time to practice, work on projects, and mingle. Bring that top you’ve been meaning to crop or those pants you’ve been meaning to hem. Bring your favorite piece of clothing that needs to be patched up or altered, or the elaborate halloween costume you’ve been working on. Or come with nothing at all but excitement to learn a new skill!

  • We will provide basic machines and supplies for attendees. Please note that you may not be guaranteed your own machine to use due to limited supplies, and you may be partnered with a sewing buddy. (If you have your own machine, feel free to bring it.)

  • A few experienced sewing “guides” will be present to teach and answer questions.

  • All are welcome, regardless of skill level, experience, or identity.

About our lead sewing instructor: Kari has made, altered, and repaired hundreds of garments. She has taught sewing both formally and informally, enthusiastically cultivating the transformative skill in others. Kari recently taught a class on creative pattern alterations at the Medford Public Library and volunteers in the Library Makerspace. Her mechanical engineering background gives her a unique problem solving skill set.
