Queering the Room; Fundraising Kickoff Session

Queering the Room - a TQNC Fundraising Effort

Fundraising at TQNC isn’t about dollars alone — it’s about keeping our spaces bright, open, and welcoming, while making the critical work of community building sustainable.

That’s why we’re launching ☎️ Call for Community: Queering the Room, a new monthly, drop-in fundraising planning space for anyone who believes in the TQNC mission to come together and support the longevity and strength of our organization.

TQNC’s north star is building toward our LGBTQIA2S+ communities existing as our full selves by creating advocacy, community building, and arts spaces, all while centering queer joy and connection. In a world where far too many forces are working to erase queer futures, we gather together to remind everyone (and ourselves!) That we’re not going anywhere - and that we’re making Greater Boston safer, kinder, and more joyful while we’re at it.  To be able to do that, we’ll need to work as a group. This space is where ideas turn into action, and where community members can help shape the future of TQNC together.

  • What: Collaborative, action-oriented fundraising sessions

  • Who: You! Passionate community members — no fundraising experience required, come as you are - we’ll learn together!

  • When: Monthly, starting in January

  • Where: Zoom link shared in this newsletter and through our Partiful invitation

🌈 Why This Matters

TQNC exists because queer people need — and deserve — spaces that feel affirming, creative, and rooted in care. Though we wish we had endless resources, we’ll need fundraising efforts to protect those spaces, grow them, and make sure they’re here for the long haul.

By building a thoughtful, community-powered development plan, we’re working toward:

  • Reliable funding that supports our programs and operations

  • Sustainable leadership capacity, so organizers aren’t burning out

  • Deeper community ties and broader visibility

  • Stronger partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and allies

Each session will focus on real, tangible pathways for sustaining TQNC. You can plug into whatever feels most aligned:

  • Crowdfunding: Creative ways to mobilize grassroots support

  • Grants: Researching opportunities to tell TQNC’s story to funders

  • Prospecting: Identifying individuals who may want to invest in queer futures

  • Sponsorships & Partnerships: Building bridges with local businesses and orgs

Commitment: We’re looking for people who are interested in learning more. We’d like to build out this plan with a committed group of volunteers who are willing to step up, but that can look a lot of different ways depending on your bandwidth. Come to the first session to get a feel!

We’re inviting folks to take on small, manageable action items across these fundraising pathways — from identifying potential donors or partners, to researching grants, to spreading the word through personal networks.  We’ll learn together and support one another along the way. Please note that there are so many different ways to do this - it doesn’t mean that everyone has to make direct donor asks. There’s something for everyone (even if you think you’re shy).

💚 Want to Get Involved?

If you’re interested, reply and let us know how you’d like to plug in, even if you can’t make it to our first meeting.

Your participation helps ensure TQNC remains a vibrant, strong, and accessible resource for our community — now and in the future.
